Summary

On June 24, 2015 the Virginia State Corporation Commission approved various rate-payer funding energy efficiency programs for residential Appalachian Power customers in Virginia. Appalachian Power through its Take Charge VA program offers various incentives to its customers in Virginia to reduce their energy usage.

Home Performance Program: Residential customers can schedule for an energy assessment for their homes at a subsidized amount. Customers receive rebates ranging from $50 to $250 depending on the total energy saved due to the energy audit. During the energy assessment, the contractor will conduct an energy audit of the home and provide personalized recommendations to conserve energy. The contractor will also identify and recommend other rebates for qualifying energy saving improvements in the home. During the audit, the contractor will install low cost energy saving measures, including Compact Fluorescent (CFL) and LED light bulbs, aerators, showerheads, replacing air filters, and others. Interested customers may call 855-422-5510 or visit the contractor search website to participate in the program.

Efficient Products Program: The program provides various rebates for purchase of various energy efficient appliances and equipment. List of eligible appliances is provided in  the field above. To apply for the rebate, customers may mail the rebate application long with the copy of the sales receipt showing the manufacturer, model number, price and a copy of recent electric bill to the company. All rebate requests must be postmarked no later than Jan 15, 2017.

ENERGY STAR Manufactured Housing Program: Any customers who purchase ENERGY STAR certified manufactured home may receive $1,300 to offset a portion of the cost.

Peak Reduction Program: Residential customers receive $40 bill credit every year if they enroll in the Residential Peak Reduction program. Participating in the program allows the utility to remotely adjust the compressor of your AC to run at 50% cycling during the peak period of the grid.  There is no additional cost to participate in the program.
