The City of Houston has signed an agreement with Reliant Energy to purchase 50% of total annual expected electricity consumption (623,000,000 kilowatt-hours) from renewable power for 2013-2015. This purchase puts Houston as the largest municipal purchaser of renewable power in the nation, and in the top 10 overall in the nation, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates.
