Summary

PSEG Long Island offers a variety of incentives which help residential customers upgrade to more energy efficient equipment and appliances in their homes. Incentives are available for home energy audits and for purchase and installation of equipments including refrigerators, washers, dryers, pool pumps, lighting, central AC, heat-pumps, and geothermal energy. Applications for rebates can be applied online, or through mail. Applications should be accompanied by supporting documentation including copy of recent PSEG residential electric bill, copy of sales receipt including manufacturer, model number and price of the product purchased.

The Cool Homes Program provides rebates for both homeowners and contractors for the installation of energy efficient central air conditioning systems and air-source heat pumps. Customers can from choose from list of specially-trained contractors (option 1) or choose any licensed air conditioning contractor (option 2) to install their preferred system. Customers participating in option 1 have higher rebate amounts.  Contractors participating in the program receive additional incentive of at least $125 per installation, and may receive reimbursement of 75% of the cost of eligible tools.

Customers may also choose to receive a free programmable thermostat of $300 value. This would allow PSEG to remotely adjust the electricity use of the central AC  during times of peak energy demand. This period of peak demand normally occur between 2pm and 6pm for a maximum of 7 days throughout summer. The customers are however allowed to override the adjustment if necessary.

In-home energy assessment is available through the PSEG's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program (for homes with central A/C) and through Home Performance Direct program (for homes without central A/C). These programs offer home energy audit at no additional cost.  Energy audit will help identify energy saving measures in the home, which can installed through financing from NYSERDA's on bill recovery loan program.
