Silicon Module Super League (SMSL) member JA Solar has supplied 50MW(AC) of its Percium monocrystalline modules for Malaysia’s first utility-scale solar project in Sabah, which is under construction.

SPIC Energy Malaysia, a subsidiary of China-based solar investor State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), is providing EPC services for the project.

JA Solar said that its Percium modules have lower light induced degradation rate, better anti-PID performance and higher power output to help operations in hot and humid environments.

The project, due to be completed by the end of 2017, is expected to create around 200 jobs.

In March, the Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC) issued a Request for Proposal (RfP) document hoping to auction up to 460MW(AC) of large-scale solar capacity.

Cao Bo, JA Solar’s vice president, said: “We are excited to partner with one of our largest customers, SPIC, again in an overseas market.

“We have invested US$163 million in our Penang, Malaysia manufacturing operation to produce poly and mono cells with the annual capacity of 1,000MW. From the China-Malaysia relationship standpoint, investing in manufacturing facilities and sharing our technical expertise in Malaysia, a rapidly growing market, remains our top priority.”
