Hevel Group, a Russian solar company derived from a joint venture between Renova Group and Rusnano, has doubled its solar module production capacity at its Novocheboksarsk facility to 160 MW with the addition of heterojunction solar module lines.
The extended capacity is enough to meet 50% of Russian domestic solar demand, Hevel Group said, extending the firm’s stranglehold of the Russian PV market.
The heterojunction technology enables heightened efficiency at both high and low temperatures – making the modules highly suitable for the environmental conditions found throughout Russia. The fab is the country’s only full-cycle solar unit, and is supported by Hevel’s R&D center, which is located at the nearby Skolkovo technology park.
“More than doubling the efficiency of solar modules compared to previous technology increases installed capacity and power output by up to 20% for the same area, opening up broad prospects in terms of large-scale projects in Russia and abroad,” said Hevel Group CEO Igor Shakhrai.
The modules also perform well in shaded and diffused light conditions, the CEO added. Hevel’s production lines at the Novocheboksarsk facility can cater for standard modules and high-efficiency solar cells that can be exported for localized assembly, Shakhrai also said.
