French solar developer Solairedirect, part of French company Engie, completed a 30 MW solar park in Senegal. State-owned utility Senegal National Electric Company (SENELEC) will buy the electricity generated in the facility located at Santhiou Mekhe, northwest of Dakar, says the African news portal »Jeune Afrique«. According to the article, investment was about $47 million. The financing has been provided by French investment company Meridiam, by Proparco, the Development Financial Institution of French Development Agency (AFD), and the Senegal’s Sovereign Fund.
In January, Engie announced the signature of a partnership with ANER, the National Renewable Energies Agency in Senegal, to accelerate the development of renewable energies in the country. The main focus will be on photovoltaic systems and solar water-heaters. Part of the agreement is the 30 MW »Senergy« project in the town of Santhiou Mekhe.
