The Swedish company Nilsson Energy AB has chosen ATsolar as its partner in connection with a 250 kW solar park in Mariestad, Sweden. The facility is scheduled for completion in May 2018. According to the company, it will be »the first of its kind in the world where renewable energy will generate hydrogen on a large scale for a hydrogen gas station without being connected to the electric grid.« The system will supply an existing hydrogen gas station with hydrogen. The gas station is owned by the local municipality and run by the local energy company, VänerEnergi.
The electricity will be stored in the battery. The hydrogen production starts when the battery is at 80 percent capacity and stops when it is down to 30 percent. The hydrogen gas is compressed to 300 bar in the tank, equivalent to a capacity of 700 kg and which corresponds to a mileage of 70,000 km in a hydrogen passenger car. The annual production of hydrogen from the solar park in Mariestad is expected to reach up to 40 tons of hydrogen, or 4,000,000 km worth of mileage in a hydrogen-fueled passenger car. ATsolar is part of the Danish Better Energy Group.
