Australia added 1 GW rooftop PV capacity in 2017

Australia has installed 1,795,342 rooftop PV systems, representing 6.40 GW in cumulative installed PV capacity, as of December 31, 2017, according to figures provided by Australia’s Clean Energy Regulator (CER). In December 2017 alone, the country installed 153,331 PV systems. Australia had around 5.4 GW of cumulative installed rooftop PV power at the end of 2016. The state of Queensland continues to have the highest level of small-scale installations with 542,035 systems installed (2017: 41.966 systems). New South Wales is ranking at the second place with cumulative 394,022 small solar generation units installed (2017: 37,061), followed by Victoria with 331,756 systems (2017: 26,182). The Clean Energy Regulator counted 6,559 PV systems with concurrent battery storage, whereof 3,763 systems were installed in 2017.

Small-scale installations across Australia reached cumulative 2,878,927 systems (new installed 2017: 204,682), including hydro systems, PV panels, wind systems and solar water heaters (including air source heat pumps). The data includes new installations, upgrades to existing systems and stand-alone (off-grid) systems.
