Global solar EPC company Sterling and Wilson selected US solar tracker manufacturer Nextracker Inc. to supply 325 MW (5 blocks of 65 MW each) of its smart solar trackers to its project within the »Benban« solar park in Aswan, Egypt. The »Benban« facility occupies 37-square-kilometers. The solar park, named after a Nile River village nearby, will house 32 power plants. By mid-2019, when all the plants are scheduled to be powered up, they will be capable of churning out a combined 1,650 MW of electricity.

The International Finance Corp (IFC) and a consortium of other lenders pledged $653 million to support the project. The financing will help 13 private companies build and operate power plants at the site. Egypt plans to generate 20 percent of its electricity from renewables by 2022.
