US utility Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced the retirement of one of Florida's largest coal-fired power plants »St. Johns River« (1.300 MW) in Jacksonville and the opening of four new solar power plants comprised of more than 1 million solar panels. The solar facilities »Horizon Solar Energy Center«, located in Alachua and Putnam counties, »Coral Farms Solar Energy Center« (Putnam County), »Indian River Solar Energy Center« (Indian River County) and »Wildflower Solar Energy Center« (DeSoto County) have a capacity of 74.5 MW each. Another four solar plants with the same size are expected commence operation by March 1.
