India so far installed 63 solar micro grids with an aggregated capacity of 1,899 kW with financial support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the country’s »Solar Off-grid and Decentralized Applications Programme«. According to the Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri Raj Kumar Singh, the MNRE has provided financial support up to 30 percent of the cost of micro/mini-grids systems for installation in the rural areas of the country.
