According to »China Daily«, a seven day program to supply all the electricity consumption of Qinghai province from wind, hydropower and solar ends today. From June 17 on, the province, with a population of 5.8 million people, ran solely on renewables.
Conditions for the experiment are exceptional in the province: According to the provincial power grid company, Qinghai has a total electricity generation capacity of 23.45 GW, of which half is supplied by hydro, added by 6.8 GW – almost one third – of solar.
