JA Solar pushes mono PERC power output to 326 W for 60-cell module

The records keep on coming. JA Solar has today confirmed that it has achieved 326.67 watt (W) power output on a 60-cell module made using mono-si PERC cells.

The power output measurement was confirmed by Germany’s TUV SUD, and builds upon the incremental increases in power yield possible using PERC. Earlier this month, Switzerland’s Meyer Burger achieved an output of 334.9 W with heterojunction (HJT) SmartWire technology, whereas the average power output using mono PERC is around 300 W for a 60-cell module.

JA Solar’s CTO Wei Shan said that a power output of over 325 W is a “remarkable achievement”, although the company did not disclose how close such a module is to commercialization.

Mono-si PERC modules formed a large portion of the 422 MW JA Solar supplied last year for its 1 GW Front Runner demonstration project, and PERC is on course to account for 40% of all module shipments across the solar landscape by 2020.

South Korea’s Hanwha Q CELLS achieved a power output of 325.2 W for its half-cell mono PERC Q.PEAK module last month, a record that was verified by Fraunhofer ISE.
