Jamaica’s state-owned oil company Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) has issued an invitation to bid to seek companies interested in providing consultancy services for the feasibility study of a grid-connected floating PV plant combined with energy storage at the Mona Reservoir, which is the main source of water for the Kingston metropolitan region, Jamaica’s capital.
The study will have to provide the PCJ and Jamaica’s National Water Commission (NWC) with the necessary technical, financial, and environmental assessments on the floating PV project, which is to be the first of its kind in the country.
Interested consultants will have to submit their offers by January 12, 2018.
PCJ announced its intention to enter the renewable energy sector in mid-October. At the time, it issued its first tender for a rooftop PV project that it is implementing for the government-run Development Bank of Jamaica.
Furthermore, the PCJ is also developing six efficiency and renewable energy projects relying on PV at six public hospitals to reduce electricity costs under the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Deployment of Renewable Energy and Improvement of Energy Efficiency in the Public Sector Project.
