Tenaga wins contract to build 30 MW Malaysian solar farm

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the Malaysian utility, has this week been granted development rights to build a 30 MW solar plant in Malaysia’s Kedah state.

The utility won through via a competitive bidding process conducted by the Energy Commission, having satisfied the energy regulator that it would pass certain execution, development and quality milestones.

The solar plant will be located in the northwest of the country, near to the town of Bukit Selambau, and follows closely on the heels of a project announcement earlier this week for the development of a 50 MW plant in Rembau. The plant will be financed by Malaysia Building Society Berhad (MBSB) under an Islamic financing arrangement, and built by Solar Management (Seremban) between now and November 2018.

Both solar farms will be eligible for Malaysia’s FIT and net metering schemes, which have drawn praise from developers operating in the region in recent weeks.
