Argentina’s Subsecretariat for Renewable Energy, which is part of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, has announced the final results of the third national auction for utility-scale renewable energy projects of the RenovAr program, the so-called Ronda 2.
As reported by the agency in a live broadcast on Wednesday, November 29, 66 large-scale PV projects with a total capacity of 556.8 MW have been selected in the auction. The Argentinian government had previously given the go ahead to 74 solar projects, with a total power of 3.75 GW, to compete in the auction.
Overall, the Subsecretariat of Renewable Energy has awarded 1.4 GW of renewable energy power generation capacity in the auction, although it had initially offered to contract 1.2 GW. The agency receieved 228 offers with a combined capacity of 9.4 GW. PV comprised the lion’s share of the submitted bids, with around 5.29 GW of projects.
The lowest bid for solar was confirmed at $40.4/MWh, while the highest and average bids came in at $52.3/MWh and $43.5/MWh, respectively. The maximum price limit for PV projects had been set at $57.04/MWh.
Under the first two rounds of the program, the Argentinean government approved a total of 900 MW of solar projects. This means that, overall, under the three auctions, the allocated capacity for large-scale solar projects is around 1.45 GW.
