Netherlands-based construction and engineering company, Ballast Nedam, a unit of Renaissance Construction, has announced plans to expand its renewable energy business. In a statement issued, the company said it aims to increase its activities in the sector via new utility-scale solar park and onshore wind farm projects.
A spokesperson told pv magazine that Ballast Nedam is currently developing four solar parks with a combined capacity of around 50 MW, which are planned to be built at unnamed locations in the Netherlands between 2018 and 2019. These projects, the spokesperson said, will result in a financial turnover of approximately €50 million.
The company, which has so far built only commercial PV systems, added it is also planning to install floating PV plants.
Commenting on the news, M&E director Arno Uiterweerd said, “Ballast Nedam strongly believes in the shift towards a portfolio of renewable energy sources, including large-scale solar … We are familiar with all aspects of project development, from landlease and permits, to financial structuring and stake-holder management and inhouse design- and engineering department.”
