A turnkey EPC agreement has been inked by ET Energy, the global solar project development arm of Chinese PV company ET Solar, alongside its partner Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. of (NWEPDI) China Power Engineering Consulting Group, and local solar PV developer UiTM Solar Power Sdn. Bhd. to build a 61 MWp utility solar power plant in Malaysia.
ET Energy will work with NWEPDI to provide one-stop engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance service on the project, located at Gambang in Kuantan, Pahang, and awarded in the first round of Malaysia’s large-scale solar PV auctions.
“We are proud to provide a one-stop service for one of the largest solar power plant in Malaysia, which ET Energy has been supporting since June last year,” Dennis She, President and CEO of ET Energy said, while also voicing confidence that the project will be completed on time and in compliance with the specifications required by the customer.
Following its second competitive auction for large-scale PV projects with 360 MW allocated to Peninsular Malaysia held in August, which attracted strong interest reaffirming the country’s growing importance as a destination for clean-energy investment, Malaysia is now poised to further expand its solar fleet.
According to BMI Research, the country is shaping up as one of the most attractive renewables markets in Southeast Asia, roughly as appealing as Thailand and China, with non-hydro renewables capacity expected to rise from 1.4 GW last year to 3.4 GW by 2026.
