Ohio’s Third Sun Solar is proud to announce an exciting partnership with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio.

From now through the end of 2017, Third Sun Solar will donate one solar panel to Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio for every residential solar system sold. Geoff Greenfield, president of Third Sun Solar, said the program should result in enough panels to provide a solar system for three to four Habitat families this year.

“We expect 2017 to be the biggest year ever for U.S. solar installations,” Greenfield said. “We believe that partnering with Habitat for Humanity in this way will not just reduce the utility costs for these hard working families, but will bring needed attention to solar and help us to further accelerate the shift to clean energy that is catching on in the Midwest.

E.J. Thomas, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio, said this is the first time the organization has partnered with a solar panel provider.

“All Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio homes are built to strict energy efficiency guidelines, and often exceed those guidelines in terms of cost-savings and energy efficiency,” he said. “Habitat-MidOhio is looking forward to working with Third Sun Solar in our continuing efforts to provide our partner families with the most cost-efficient and reliable sources of energy for their homes and
repairs.”

Greenfield said that he is excited about this first of its kind partnership, and although there have been many solar installations done on Habitat Homes in the past (including one by Third Sun Solar in Athens County), these have been single projects, while this program has the potential to serve many homes.

“Part of our responsibility as a certified B Corp is to actively seek ways to promote social and environmental support of our community,” Greenfield said. “Helping provide affordable and sustainable housing while educating people on how easy it is to attain energy independence is a great fit for our mission-driven company, and our team is really looking forward to it.”
