JLM Energy, an energy technology company, was selected to provide off-grid energy storage for the Colorado School of Mines Tiny House that will be on display at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon starting this weekend in Denver. The Energizr 100 off-grid system was paid for in part by Honeywell, as well as funds raised by the School of Mines student group.

Energizr 100 is a grid-resilient, residential essential loads energy storage system, designed to provide emergency back-up power and keep solar systems productive during power outages. It uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries with a capacity of 8.8 kWh. It is perfect for an off-grid application, such as a remote cabin. On the Mines Tiny House, Energizr 100 connects to four solar panels that were donated by Brite Street Energy.

Operated with JLM Energy’s proprietary energy optimization software, Measurz, the system tracks real-time energy consumption and renewable energy generation, leading to more informed energy use decisions.

Ellen Howe, Colorado sales director for JLM said, “We are so pleased to support the Mines students’ ingenuity and innovation. Back-up energy storage is a real need here in Colorado and we want to increase awareness about the ability to keep solar up and running during a power outage through batteries.”

Christian Rawson, product manager, Honeywell Smart Energy, said, “Honeywell’s ongoing collaboration with JLM Energy is helping us bring innovative battery solutions to new customers. Together, we are accelerating the movement of energy storage into the mainstream. As part of our collaboration, we are pleased to support JLM’s provision of energy storage for the Colorado School of Mines’ Tiny House at this event.”

Professor Tim Ohno of the School of Mines said, “The value of the home will be $40,000-$50,000 once complete.  The off-grid house will allow students to explore and learn about innovative, smart technologies that promote energy independence and sustainability. This project was made possible by the donations of our contributors and for that we are grateful.”
