Global solar developer Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has selected a joint venture between Acciona Industrial and Gransolar (GRS), led by GRS, to construct the 100MW(AC) Lilyvale Solar Farm in Australia.
Work has already begun and the project should be completed by the end of 2018.
The new plant is located 50 kilometres northeast of Emerald in the state of Queensland and it will cover roughly 396 hectares with 379,260 modules on single-axis tracking systems. The project will also have 25 transformer centres.
Around 200 workers will be involved in its construction.
FRV has a 280MW(AC) pipeline of completed and under construction PV projects in Australia requiring AU$700 million (US$550 million) investment. Last week, FRV closed financing for the Lilyvale farm. Queensland is also dominating Australian solar and wind project financing in 2017 so far.
“At the start of this year, Acciona acquired Geotech Group, which is also working on Lilyvale through its John Beever Australia business,” said Ramón Jiménez, managing director of Acciona Industrial.
This is GRS’ first PV project in Australia.
Acciona and GRS recently bagged contracts for projects including construction of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (Phase III) in Dubai in a consortium with Ghella.
