Australia reached milestone of 6 GW installed PV rooftop systems

Australia has installed 1,727,568 rooftop PV systems, representing 6.0 GW in cumulative installed PV capacity, as of the end of August 2017, according to the latest figures provided by Australia’s Clean Energy Regulator (CER). Since January 2017, the country added 88,914 small-scale PV systems.

In August, Australia installed 8,017 small-scale renewable energy systems (including 6,750 PV rooftop systems) with a total generation capacity of 40,317 kW, an increase compared to July, when 6,139 small-scale systems installed nationally were installed with a total generation capacity of 31,479 kW.

Queensland continues to have the highest level of small-scale installations across Australia with 2,421 renewable energy systems installed in August, including 2,083 PV and 338 solar water heaters. Furthermore, Queensland had the highest number of commercial sized solar PV systems (10 to 100 kW) installed in August, with 153 systems. Australia-wide there were 432 commercial sized solar PV systems installed. The Clean Energy Regulator counted 136 solar PV systems that had a concurrent battery storage installation in August.
