The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is calling to update the national manufacturing capacities of solar cells and modules. According to the latest figures published by the Ministry, as on May 5 the installed manufacturing capacity of solar cells was 3,164 MW, but only 1,667 MW were operational.
Furthermore, the Ministry published a list of companies and their manufacturing capacities. Top manufacturer regarding the operational cell manufacturing capacity is Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd. (270 MW; installed 300 MW), followed by Jupiter International Ltd. (260 MW; 260 MW installed) and Indosolar Ltd. (240 MW; installed 240 MW).
The installed manufacturing capacity of solar modules was 8,398 MW, only 5,506 MW were operational. Top manufacturers were Waaree Energies Pvt. Ltd. (500 MW; installed 500 MW), Vikram Solar Pvt Ltd. (500 MW; installed 500 MW) and Emmvee Photovoltaics Pvt Ltd. (500 MW; installed 500 MW), followed by Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd. (300 MW; installed 400 MW).
However, the compiled list is not exhaustive in some respects and is not to be considered as the MNRE approved solar cells and module manufacturers, says the Ministry.
