German gas and power company Gasag announced that it is investing around US$37.7 million over the next two to three years for a portfolio of PV projects totaling 40MW.
The local communities located near these projects will receive an offer to buy a stake in the installations. SpreeGas, a subsidiary of Gasag, recently completed a 10MW PV installation in the district of Spree-Neiße, Germany.
Vera Gäde-Butzlaff, CEO of GASAG, said: “The new PV plant is now producing more than 50 million kWh of eco-electricity in the GASAG group with sun, wind and biogas – 25% more than a year ago.
“And our plan is further growth. In this way, we underline our willingness to drive decentralized, renewable and efficient energy generation in the region. By participating in a solar installation, municipalities can not only benefit from the revenues. The plants can also contribute to the implementation of municipal energy concepts.”
