At 374 MW, the three-phase Bungala project is among the biggest PV installations in Australia. Elecnor also served as EPC contractor for the first phase of the project. The 100 MW third phase of the project is still under development. DIF and Italy’s Enel Green Power acquired the first phase of the Bungala project in April from Australian developer Reach Solar Energy for $157 million.
More than 437,000 PV modules will be used in the second phase of the Bungala plant, according to an online statement. Elecnor did not reveal the solar panel supplier. Upon completion in the first quarter of 2019, the 250-hectare PV array will generate enough electricity annually to power 39,000 homes.
Madrid-based Elecnor — which has a regional subsidiary in Melbourne — also agreed to provide O&M services for the Bungala Two project, under a five-year, A$17 million deal. In total, the company is now developing 375 MW of solar capacity at four locations in Australia. In December, it finished developing 25 MW near Barcaldine, in the state of Queensland. It sold the PV array to Britain’s Foresight Group in February for A$33.4 million.
Beyond Australia, the company has worked on a number of solar projects throughout the world this year. Most recently, it signed a $117 million deal to build a 115 MW solar project near Santiago, Chile.
