Singapore-based renewable energy firm Equis Energy has commissioned a 29.5MW solar PV project in Nihonmatsu City in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.
Equis owns 900MW of solar in Japan, made up of 40 projects, and it has another 1.3 GW under development. The Nihonmatsu project generates 33,925MWh of electricity per annum and on an annual basis, provides 6,431 households with electricity.
Adam Ballin, Equis board director, said: “The contribution of solar energy to Japan’s energy mix over the past two years has increased dramatically, and rapid growth is expected to continue. Not only does our new solar power plant in Nihonmatsu provide low‐cost clean energy, but also it allows us to offer jobs to the local community.”
Equis, which has the largest renewable energy portfolio in the Asia-Pacific, has been drawing a high level of interest in its restructuring plans, with multiple media reports over the last few weeks speculating on potential buyers of Equis' entire renewables portfolio.
