Germany-based solar module manufacturer Recom has announced that its French unit Recom-Sillia has restarted manufacturing activities at its solar module factory in Lannion, in the French northern region of Brittany.
Recom said that its French division has already a pipeline of new projects totaling 20 MW, of which two thirds is for customers outside France. The company had previously announced it is seeking to boost production capacity at the Lannion site from 50 MW currently to 150 MW by the end of the year.
“It is a great satisfaction for all the employees of Recom-Sillia to restart the activity at the Lannion site. After a break of several months, we can again fulfil all the demands of our clients, who remained loyal to us, but we can also produce and deliver our products for diverse projects around the world,” said the company in its press release.
Recom agreed to acquire Sillia, which had filed for insolvency in early March, in mid-June. Recom’s offer was limited to the acquisition of Sillia’s 50 MW production site in Lannion, in northwestern France, and did not include the 150 MW Venissieux’s factory, in the east of the country, which Sillia acquired in joint venture with French developer Urbasolar from Bosch in mid-2014.
Recom operates solar module manufacturing facilities in Italy, Poland, South Korea. The company, which claims it is currently the second largest PV module manufacturing company in Europe, has also developed large-scale PV projects as EPC contractor in Hungary, Romania, Cyprus, Nicaragua and Dominican Republic, among others.
