Solar panel installation records are being set in the golden state 

This is equivalent to 16 % of all electricity absorbed during the day. All you have to do is have the longest day of the year and have a whole state without cloud cover, and the magic storm begins. The most recent was immediate solar production record 10,539 MW at 1:40 pm on April 27, 2018. Just weeks earlier California set a record for peak percentage of demand that was served by solar. That occurred on March 4, 2018, when 49.95 percent of the peak demand was met with solar power.
 

Businesses and Solar powered homes are not accounted for

Extra circumstances, not even involved in the astonishing statistic is how much residential and business solar panel installations continued powering homes and businesses and the power wasn't measured, because it was all used before it even made it to the electrical meter, as CAISO does not have any clarity into solar-powered homes located at homes and businesses discovered behind a customer’s meter.

So when you see a report like 10.5 GW being produced, it is more like 17 GW. This means that the peak of 10.5 GW doesn’t consider for as much as 6.5 GW of extra power being produced. And the percent requirement agreed by solar developments as well when viewed the significant electricity regulation offset before the meter is even used.
 

Starting to include residential and commercial solar panel installations

One thing for sure is California will continue to bust records, as the solar panel installations continue to grow. Even though grid operators in the United States typically do not include behind-the-meter solar power, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration has begun including estimates of such generation.
