Sun power and the environment

Solar power’s popularity is just beginning and the cumulative effects of cleaner energy are being felt across the globe. No energy technology is without trade-offs, technical limitations, and environmental impacts. Solar power is no different, despite misinformation being spread by climate change deniers. There is a minimal amount of pollution generated from the manufacture of solar panels. Some cite this as a reason to omit the use of solar energy even though fossil fuel generation is dramatically more polluting. Fortunately, sunshine costs nothing. But manufacturing, transporting, installing and maintaining the equipment necessary to harness the sun's power and put that energy to practical everyday use is not free, though that big-picture perspective isn’t something you’ll get from industry advocates.

Solar energy is today’s energy solution

Solar power panels don’t just appear on your roof by magic. The materials and chemicals of which they consist, and the industrial means used to combine these elements together and make them work, can’t be forgotten when we look at the environmental impacts of solar energy generation. Large-scale solar power production can't be done on residential rooftops, but requires the construction of giant complexes, sprawling across the landscape, not to mention the transmission towers and corridors needed to deliver that power to market.

Seeing sun power in its totality, and putting it in proper context, requires that we take a more analytical approach, from the mining of raw materials to the disposal of used up solar panels. But the truth is that fossil fuels are a finite and dangerously polluting resource that must be replaced completely before the world’s supply is totally exhausted. Will fossil fuels last another half-century? Mankind is in a race to deliver clean energy before the planet is destroyed. Will we have the courage to adopt new energy solutions before it’s too late?

Financial incentives to install solar

Currently, there are also financial advantages to installing a solar power system on your roof. The cost of installing solar is at an all-time low, which provides motivation for homeowners “on the fence” about making the investment in a more responsible energy future.

There has never been a better time to install a solar energy system!
