Solar technology and carbon emissions

Despite denials from much of the Trump Administration, global warming proceeds at an alarming rate. Climate patterns are changing, in Asia, in Europe, and here in California. Droughts floods and massive wildfires have devastated large parts of the West. Climate scientists have tracked these global warming tendencies and attributed them mostly to human activity on the planet. Our overuse of fossil fuels has resulted in dramatically increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

California leads the way in solar energy

Even in sunny progressive California, much of the state’s energy still comes from our dependence on fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burned, carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases are released into the air. These greenhouse gases, such as methane, are also released during fossil fuel extraction and transportation. The atmosphere acts like a greenhouse, which is why these emissions are called greenhouse gases.

How Is Climate Change Affecting California?

California offers more in terms of natural beauty, miles of coastline and idyllic weather than any other state. California is also home to genius inventors and dreamers. This kind of people does not take no for an answer when challenges arise. That sort of thinking drives solutions to our energy conundrums. But California as we know it is being threatened. Climate change is already contributing to dangerous conditions all over the state. Increased air pollution, deforestation, more wildfires, droughts, heat waves and sea-level rise, are all increasing at alarming rates. Climate scientists and other experts agree that we need to reduce carbon emissions if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

The only way to ensure a clean energy future is for everyone to take some actions on a personal level. These actions do not have to be drastic. By conservation alone, we can reduce our consumption of harmful fossil fuels.  It will take effort and dedication from every individual and company doing business here. We all need to be responsible for successfully increasing energy efficiency, embracing clean energy and supporting clean technology. If we can achieve these goals, we will reap the benefits such as lower cost and cleaner air. When we fight the effects of climate change, our collective efforts can boost our local economy by keeping clean-energy investments and jobs in California.
