U.S. state leaders pursue solar energy technology

Despite federal rollbacks of Obama-era environmental and energy policies, both sides of the political aisle are involved in the change toward renewable energy. Both Republican and Democratic states are pushing initiatives for renewable energy. Electric cars, clean energy storage and economical solar equipment are   the top items used to  push  clean energy.

States in the west coast such as Nevada have  integrated clean energy innovation. Nevada’s  renewable energy production almost doubled since 2009,  and the clean energy workforce has grown 9.5 percent over the past year. This increase is surprisingly more than three times faster than other Nevada industries. One of their big renewables energy initiatives is an electric highway that will connect Las Vegas to Reno. Several energy-related bills into law in June, including net metering. This mandates utilities to buy back excess power from residents' rooftop solar panels. This makes renewable energy affordable for homeowners. Additional states across the country are following the footsteps of Nevada. In addition, Hawaii was once among the most oil-dependent states in the U.S. In 2015, the state committed to getting 100 percent of the state's energy from renewable sources by 2045. State and federal tax cuts have significantly reduced the cost of solar panels, making them more accessible for Hawaii residents.

States with fewer resources in the nation still continuously  pus for energy policies. In Massachusetts, announced a state plan to reduce carbon emissions 80 percent, relative to 1990 levels, by 2050. And by the end of 2018, 70 percent of all street lights use low-energy light emitting diode bulbs, or LEDs. Massachusetts additionally is investing about $10 million into energy storage technology research. States that have less resources that want to shift toward renewable energy  have to get creative. From diversifying their energy portfolios, having an all-electric car future or partnering with other states, it can be done. For example, Wyoming, will construct in 2019 on a transmission line to sell its wind energy to markets in California and states across the country.

Although the White House scrapped the  Clean Power Plan, about half of the states are on track to outperform the plan's mandated power plant carbon emissions reductions by 2030. Of those 25 states, 13 have Republican governors and 12 are led by Democrats.
