Solar is the most environmentally sound power source

The world is considering progressively more of the effects of global warming. This summer a hurricane hit Hawaii for the first time in a quarter century. Japan has recorded the highest temperatures since records have been kept. Europe and Canada, two other northern hemisphere nations, are seeing the hottest temperatures in recent memory with many deaths attributable to the excess heat.  Climate change is motivating scientists and lawmakers to explain how the world can produce power without more pollution on the planet. The clear answer, for now, is solar power. A  large number of households are opting to install solar panels on their home or business to help reduce their energy costs. Some of the key advantages of solar energy in the environment include:

Less water consumption with solar

Especially in the western part of the United States, water is the most valuable natural resource. We live on one of the aridest continents on the planet, and we are in danger of running out of fresh water in the near future. Desalination facilities are not yet effective enough to treat large amounts of ocean water.  Traditional electricity generation can use thousands of gallons of water every year. Water is employed for cooling generators, processing and refining fuel and transporting fuel. Producing energy through solar panels, however, uses no water at all. Most people acknowledge that the most important role solar plays in the world are to minimize air pollution. The air we breathe influences our health and well being. Generating electricity from fossil fuels can produce dangerous carbon dioxide and methane gases that hurt the quality of the air we breathe. Breathing poor quality air daily can have disastrous negative consequences on our health. Air pollution has been associated with asthma and allergies, bronchitis, pneumonia, headaches, anxiety, heart attacks, and some cancers.

Solar helps to reduce pollution associated with climate change

The long-term combustion of fossil fuels has led to the enhanced greenhouse effect, which is warming our earth quicker than ever before. This has been linked to a number of deadly weather events, such as flooding, cyclones, extreme heat, and drought. Generating electricity from solar panels provides no greenhouse gases at all, and so can help to reduce the effect of climate change if used widely.  With solar energy powering a home or business, there is no burning of fuel and no eruptions from energy generation.

In fact, climate scientists continue to warn us about the catastrophic effects of burning fossil fuels to the current extent. The entire planet needs to make major changes and there are forces that want to keep us drilling for oil and coal. Fossil fuels will be gone within another half century so it is time to develop a sensible energy policy based upon science. There are financial rewards for sensible ecological decisions.
