In today’s world, pollution is a major issue in urban areas, particularly in China and India. Solar power generation does not emit any greenhouse gases. Solar power is much healthier for the world’s water supply, as well, because solar power production needs no water, compared to natural gas extraction, which uses fracking, and requires significant amounts of water. Water is a significant issue to consider in the American West and solar can be an enormous help. Thermal power plants require water for cooling. Solar energy generates power even if water isn't easily available, and it does not add pollutants to the water supply, while both coal mining and natural gas drilling often pollute with devastating results to the population of people, animals, and plants.

Similar to wind energy systems, solar energy systems are modular and scattered around a large area instead of being concentrated in one area. This lack of a central location ensures that the severe weather conditions affecting one area won't adversely affect an entire solar energy system. One of the best examples of how solar energy systems aid consumers happened in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy. The hurricane damaged electrical  generation systems that used fossil fuels, which left huge populations of New York and New Jersey without power. Conversely, other areas affected by the hurricane in the Northeast used clean energy systems, and they had much smaller problems. It’s way past time to explore the opportunities for energy savings, protecting delicate ecosystems and saving money. The sun is a massive power source, and the world is only scratching the surface in solar energy use. Technological innovations will make solar panels cheaper and more efficient. Switching to solar energy provides a secure energy source that doesn’t have grid outages, and it has significant benefits for the planet and everyone's overall quality of life. When individuals install solar on their homes, they often feel a sense of relief and pride since they are producing their own power and not contributing to the pollution of the planet.
