China dominates the solar energy production

This move to harness renewable energy was largely prompted by China’s air pollution, which makes it almost impossible for citizens to breathe in cities like Shanghai and Beijing. According to statistics, air pollution from coal power plants has caused the premature deaths of more than one million people in 2012. That is one of the major reasons China has made the major commitment to solar, but they will benefit from the financial savings as well.
 
Solar power is cheaper than you would expect

Partly due to technological advances, solar power is increasingly affordable for the masses. The cost of solar panels has dropped by 80% since 2008, and it is expected to keep dropping. It is predicted that the price of commercially-available solar technology will decrease by 4.4 percent every year, meaning that by 2022 the price will fall by another 27 percent compared to today’s prices. Falling costs of solar energy are predicted to boost the actualization of this technology. Photovoltaic systems could supply up to 70 percent of the world’s electricity production by 2050.
At that point, renewable energy will become more cost-effective than fossil fuels combined together with nuclear energy. The end result is that in the near future we could rely entirely on renewable energy.
